Student Internship (28 February - 12 August 2022)
My First Skool @ Whampoa 2
During my 6 months internship, I was attached to My First Skool @Whampoa 2. It was overall a fun and enriching experience, and I enjoyed every single moment of the experience. The mentor and host teacher guided me through my assigned tasks such as lesson planning and implementation, creating take-home activity kits, planning a field trip and creating a personal portfolio for a focus child.
During my internship, I was attached to the K1 class, who were 4-5 years old, and assisted my host teacher with setting up of learning corners and coming up with ideas for the dramatic play area for Term 2 and Term 3, and helped out with implementation for their inquiry-based project, which was about light and shadow.
However, even though I was attached to the K1 class, I also assisted in the other classes when needed. My mentor gave me weekly feedback, and with the guidance that she and my host teacher gave me, I reflected more on ways I could improve, like becoming more flexible to changes, and this helped me greatly throughout my internship experience.
Furthermore, this internship gave me more insight on how important it is to have a close relationship with my colleagues. It is very important to have a strong support system within the teachers at the centre, because it would ease any communication barriers, and allow for everyone to be open and honest with one another. Additionally, showing respect while voicing out my opinions and thoughts would allow for mutual respect to be established within the teachers.
All in all, I learnt many important things that will stay with me for life, and I am extremely thankful for the opportunity given to me by My First Skool @Whampoa 2.
Documentation of Experience

My mentor took this picture of me with the K1 class, which was the class I was attached to for intern. This was an extremely memorable experience, and I will treasure the lessons learnt and the memories made with the children.

A lesson teaching the children three-letter CVC words, and I designed this lesson resource, called Traffic Light CVC Words, with the board having a traffic light picture, and a set of prompt cards with the specific CVC words.

Practicum Attachment (October - November 2021)
Star Learners @ Thomson
During my second year in NP, I had the opportunity to be attached to Star Learners @Thomson for a 1 month practicum. During this experience, I was attached to the N2 class (3-4 years old), and had to plan and implement 3 lessons, with the three focusing on Numeracy, Motor Skills Development and Literacy.
This practicum experience was a refreshing insight into how teachers really had to plan and see their lesson plans come to fruition, and it showed me how things might not always go according to plan, but it is our job as educators to think ahead and overcome any mishaps that might happen. Classroom management skills was also something that I developed more during this experience, and this was partly due to my mentor who guided me.
From this experience, and the skills that I learnt and developed, I am confident that I will be able to use and apply them for my future class.
Documentation of Experience

This was the last day of attachment, and I had just given out the farewell gifts to my attached class, which were the N2s.

Children had to follow the word shown on the prompt cards, e.g. CAT, and throw the beanbags one by one onto the corresponding letters, using underarm throw.

Practicum Attachment (August 2020)
Little Greenhouse @ Hougang
I had the opportunity to be attached to Little Greenhouse for one week during my first year in NP.
I was attached to the playgroup class, I was able to observe firsthand how the teachers cared for the young children there, and even though I did not have the opportunity to teach, it was a great first experience and it gave me insight into the life of an early childhood educator.
To elaborate, I was able to see how the teachers deal with mishaps and disruptive children, remaining calm and patient with them.
